TGIF special!

June 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We’re bringing back a favorite as our special today!  It’s the Grilled Reuben Salad Sandwich!  Yup, you read it correctly…a reuben salad and it’s even grilled with Swiss cheese on rye bread.  We promise this is a Caros exclusive and it’s always a hit with our customers.

Remember that you can give us a call at 255-0039, place your order and we’ll have it ready and waiting for you to pick up and take with you or enjoy while chatting with our other customers or even the cooks!  Granted you may be looking at their backs while they prepare orders but they’ll hear ya and they’ll even talk back to ya!  We can do more than one thing at a time although there are days when it seems inpossible! lol

The Chef’s Special was a hit yesterday.  We’re sure you’ll be able to find the “not your average” meatloaf again.  Drew grilled it!!!  And who doesn’t love garlic mashed taters.  Add some good old country green beans to that and you have a meal like your momma would have prepared for Sunday dinner!  Nobody says you have to wait until Sunday to enjoy great food! :)

We were really pleased to get an email from an out of town customer who let us know she enjoyed Caros so much that she felt the need to write a review at www.restaurantratingz.com  How exciting for us and we sure do thank her.

Tomorrow is family day at Caros!  Robin prepares a great breakfast while her hubby, William runs the cash register and takes the orders.  Drew mans the grill for lunch while his wife, Karin tends to the Herb’n Renewal goodies that she sets up each Saturday in the front area.  Believe it or not they all smile at each other most of the time!  Take a break from shopping at the farmers market and come join us for a great breakfast or a wonderful lunch.  You don’t have to walk through the market trying to hold onto your food while eating it…we have seats, air conditiong and restrooms!  If you’re looking for something special at the market why not ask Karin or Drew for their opinion…they spent 10 years selling there and they know the “real” farmers!  They’ll gladly head you in the right direction.

Here’s a few folks enjoying our Saturday specials before heading to the market.

Geez, almost forgot…tomorrow is Drew’s birthday and “Mrs. Drew” the cookie lady, will be baking one of his favorites for everyone to share.  Come by and wish him a Happy Birthday and enjoy a birthday brownie baked in his honor!

Time to get cooking…hope to see you all sometime this week at the “Best Little Joint Downtown!”

What’s coming up at Caros!

June 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Thursday is always the “Chef’s Choice” day and this week is no different. Drew will be taking you back to your childhood with an extra touch. Look for not your momma’s meatloaf, garlic mashed taters and green beans. We call it comfort food and hope that you enjoy a Drew favorite!

And, if you are one of many who have asked for a repeat performance of the Grilled Reuben Salad, it will be back on Friday! No, it’s not your average sandwich but we were amazed at the amount of folks that have asked us to bring it back. Even had a customer from out of town rave about it! So, if you haven’t tried it yet, Friday is your chance.

Normally during the heat of summer most folks want to enjoy sitting in an air conditioned place but it’s on the cool (if that’s possible in June) side this week so remember that you can enjoy the great outdoors on the patio we share with McCarthy’s Irish Pub.   Hey, even if it’s a bit warm it sure is nice to actually see the outdoors after being cooped up in an office all day!

Here’s what our patio area looks like except this photo was taken during our off hours…why not fill up the empty spaces while enjoying lunch!

Don’t forget that you can call ahead and we’ll have your order ready for pick-up if you’re having one of those “I can’t leave my desk” days!  Give us a holler at 255-0039 and tell us what you want.

Whew, Caros now has a blog!

June 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We’re hoping this will be a new way to keep up with the “goings on” at Caros!

It’s been a busy last few months with many changes.  As most of you know, Hettie and DC decided to move on to another phase of their lives in early April. Change is good for all concerned! Drew Rasmussen, or Mr. Drew as he is known to our customers, pitched in to lend a helping hand and decided to stay on board. Yippee! You might recognize his name because he and his wife, Karin own Herb’n Renewal. Herb’n Renewal had been members of the Lexington Farmers’ Market for many years and most of you have had the opportunity to sample Drew’s wonderful cooking each Saturday. We’re happy that they decided they needed a change in their lives too. They are now part of the Caros family! Those wonderful cookies are baked by “Mrs. Drew!” And “Mr. Drew” is now our lunchtime “fry cook” even though he swore he would never do that again. Lol

And, then the speculation about the new development of CentrePoint started to become a reality and the Rite Aid drugstore closed. That left Shawnee looking for a new place to call home and we’re glad that she decided that Caros was the place to be! She’s become the “sweet tea” gal at the register. She’ll take your orders, smile at you and even help get your lunch ready.

Yup, life at Caros sure has changed. We’re a happy threesome just trying to make your breakfast and lunch experience better! Heck, we even brightened the “joint” up! Out with the old wall decorations.

And in with the new and brighter wall of “stuff!”

We’ve had more fun listening to customers talk about their parents and grandparents using some of the utensils that now adorn the walls. We’ve even found a customer that knew what one of the two “we have no idea what the heck they are” thingies was a soap holder. Whodda thunk! But we sure appreciated finding out what the heck it was.

Something else you might notice is the change in our menu. We’ve added some new items and a Chef’s Choice each Thursday. That’s the day that Drew gets to create and you get to enjoy! We’re still a work in progress but it sure has been fun and we hope you’ll continue to enjoy the changes we continue to make. Don’t panic, we’ve kept some of the crowd favorites on the menu including the “Your Momma” burger but we did decide to marry her off and add the “Your Poppa” upgrade! The “Bo’Ski” continues to be a crowd pleaser and our signature fries will never be changed, especially since the guy responsible for the great seasoning is now our fry cook!

One more thing…we’re now open on Saturday’s from 7am until 2pm so that you can have a great breakfast, shop at the farmers market and come back for a super lunch. And, we’re happy to report that Karin sets up a smaller version of the Herb’n Renewal booth each Saturday so you don’t have to miss out on the great herb blends.

We’re hoping everyone will enjoy our changes and the growth that Caros has been experiencing…it’s only gonna get better!

The Caros threesome,

Robin, Drew and Shawnee

P.S. We’ve been told that it is safe to use tomatoes again so our Ultimate BLT will once again have maters on it to go along with those 6 slices of bacon and lettuce!!!
