We Have a Chili Champ!

September 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Our very own smiling Ms. Stella! :) Congratulations Miss Chili Queen!

And, thank you all for taking the time to come sample the three different (and, they were very different) pots full of chili. We had a great time and we hope you did too. Unfortunately there is a bit of a glitch in our promise to put the winning chili on our menu. As we told you we are now Kentucky Proud and we have to use as many Kentucky products as possible…we’re also striving to be as “natural” as we can be. So, once all three of us looked over the winning recipe we realized that we could alter it and take it a step further in order to meet our goals. We do promise that it will be great and the basic recipe will be from our Chili Queen, Ms. Stella! We hope you all understand and come by and enjoy Caros chili during the cold winter months that loom ahead.

Another great thing that happened that day was the unveiling (or would that be handing out) of our new “Clean Plate Club” cards! Sure hope you got one because it’s certainly a way to enjoy our wonderful offerings and get a FREE meal at the same time. All you have to do is get your “Clean Plate Club” card stamped with our adorable little chef guy each time you come in and purchase a $5 or more meal and when you have seven of those little adorable guys on your card…we’ll buy your eighth meal!!! If you didn’t pick a card up please, do not hesitate to ask for one when you visit Caros the next time.

Show your support!

September 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Next week is going to be a busy one at Caros! On Thursday we have our Caros Chili Cookoff and then on Saturday we are going to turn pink for the Race For The Cure!

We’re planning on having all sorts of specials on Saturday, September 27th before, during and after the race. Stop in and have some pink lemonade and a pink cookie to go with it, how about a breakfast plate with a grilled pork cutlet or maybe one of our crowd favorites, the pork tenderloin sandwich! We know, pork is the “other white meat” but it’s the closest we could come to pink. Besides, it tastes wonderful! And, you’ll surely be able to find us easily because we’ll have a giant pink pig out front with all of our specials listed on it.

But, the best part is you get to enjoy some wonderful food and give at the same time. We’ll be donating 25% of our sales on Saturday to the Lexington Susan G. Komen Foundation! So, you’ll be contributing to a wonderful cause too.

So, bust out your pink and come downtown and either run, walk or root on the participants of the Race For The Cure. Come grab some coffee or breakfast before the race…we open at 7am. Then after the race stop by and enjoy a great lunch. It’s a great way to show your support.

Caros Chili Cookoff!

September 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Yup, Caros is having a chili cookoff!

It seems like everyone says they make the very best chili. Well, we’re gonna let our customers decide if “Grill Man” Drew, “Bo’Ski” Robin or “Sweet Tea” Stella can live up to the title of “Chili Champ at Caros!”

They are going to be chopping, dicing, slicing, browning, cooking, simmering and stirring what they consider to be their best pot of chili. Only you can decide who wins!

On Thursday, September 25th, starting at 11:00am you’ll be able to come in and sample and vote for your favorite. The one that wins will become Caros signature chili and you’ll be able to find it as an addition to our already great menu!

It’s a secret vote so you don’t have to worry about upsetting the “crew”…we really just want your honest opinions. Caros strives to serve our customers only the very best available and now that it’s getting cooler it’s time for soups and chili. We want our customers to be happy and if you decided that kettle #1 is better than kettle #2 and #3 or whatever…that’s what will be on our fall and winter menu!

So, mark your calendars and come enjoy a sample of all three kettles of chili and cast your vote for our newest menu item! We’ll be starting to serve samples at 11:00am and hand them out until the supply is depleted, so come early.

By the way, we’ve added a daily homemade soup to our menu! It’s the “soupers” choice so you’ll just have to come in and see what we have each day. We can guarantee that it’ll take that cool nip right out of the air! Nothing like a good old fashioned bowl or cup of homemade soup to make one smile. :)

More wonderful news!!!!  Caros is now very proud to be able to say that we are Kentucky Proud!  We do our very best to serve you goodies grown or produced in the Commonwealth of Kentucky!

A restaurant with a view!

September 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Well,  not exactly the kind of view most people look for when they choose a place to eat but in Downtown Lexington…Caros seems to have the view that most folks are buzzing about!  We’re right across the street from the “it’s gonna happen” Centrepointe development.

It’s been kind  of exciting, although nostalgic, to watch what used to be a block of brick, mortar and memories become a pile of rubble that is about leveled to the ground.  Business continues as usual around the demolition for Caros although the view out of our front window included a large cloud of dust as a good portion of Mia’s and most of Buster’s came down.

But, the dust soon cleared and Vine Street was open enough for the Saturday farmers market to operate.  Alright, it looked like the farmers hauled the produce in with BIG  trucks, but believe me they didn’t!  Caros has become the place to go on Saturday morning to find out what’s happening at the market.  The farmers come in for something cool to drink, a quick meal to help them get through the morning and to let us know what they have available.

It’s business as usual for both the farmers market and for Caros!  If you want the “scoop” on what’s available at the market stop by and talk to the folks at Caros…they shop there too and Karin and Drew know the farmers personally after having been members for many years.

Speaking of Drew, he braved a tall ladder and made a climb to the roof of the building Caros is located in.  WOW, aerial photos of “the block” or what is left of it!

That’s the same corner that the farmers market photo was taken last week.  Guess the farmers won’t have to worry about the “haulers” this week!  This is the corner of Vine and Upper…the exact place where Joe Rosenberg set up shop for many years.

Here’s an aerial view of most of the block including what used to be Buster’s and The Dame.  Sad, but Lexington is one step closer to a new and revitalized block.

Hi there folks at Park Plaza..we can see you now! :)

Yes, as hard as it might be for some to watch, Downtown Lexington is changing!  Caros is still in the same place, still serving the best  food at “The Best Little Joint Downtown!”  Come join us for breakfast or lunch on Monday through Saturday so you can see the “happenings” first hand and enjoy it all while having a super meal. Don’t forget that you can still shop with Herb’n Renewal each Saturday inside Caros!
